Position: Security Engineer (Network Security Assurance Testing)
The Security Engineer (Network Security Assurance Testing) will be part of a team of security assurance test engineers to assess the compliance of network devices with security assurance standards under the Common Criteria and FIPS 140 schemes.
Duties will include configuring network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, IDS/IPS, etc., following test plans to perform assurance testing activities on the devices and recording results for submission to government certification bodies.
For this position, a solid understanding of foundational networking concepts (OSI model, TCP/IP, Ethernet, etc.) is essential. Experience working with and an understanding of secure communications protocols (TLS, SSH, IPsec, MACsec, etc.) is also key.
Troubleshooting skills and a “tester mindset” is a key to success in this role, as is the ability to both work as part of a team and alone with minimal supervision on assigned tasks.
Required Qualifications
For Junior Position:-
• Associate’s Degree with 3-4 years of experience, Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with 2-3 years of experience
For Senior Position:-
• Associate’s Degree with 6-7 years of experience, Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with 5+ year of experience
• Ability to configure, deploy and troubleshoot networking equipment and configurations at a “CCNA” level
o CCNA certification is definitely a plus
• Understanding of foundational protocols as well as secure communications protocols and the ability to describe correct behavior and identify anomalies
• Ability to use tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, similar to record and analyze packet captures of network traffic
• Experience working with Unix-like operating systems (Linux, BSD, Solaris)
• Demonstrated ability to think critically and adapt to new circumstances and technology platforms
• Understanding of basic security concepts and best practices
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
• Experience with networking equipment from multiple vendors
• Familiarity with wireless networking, VoIP, etc.
• Security certifications such as Security+, GSEC
• Familiarity with one, more languages (Perl, Python, BASH, etc)
